В одном из сражений периода альбигойских войн, которое называется битва при Мюре тысяча рыцарей вместе с 600 пехотинцев нанесла поражение 42 тысячной армии. У одной стороны 12 тысяч убитых и пленных, а в другой 150. Битва при Пате показывает, как 180 рыцарей с 1300 пехотой разгромила 5000 англичан, убив 2000. В финальном аккорде столетней войны рыцари уничтожили длинные луки5. Хотите экзотики? Битва при Пуатье 732 года, когда не без помощи рыцарей была разгромлена армия. Состоящая от 20 до 80 тыс. Она, к слову, потеряла 10 тысяч.Таким образом, рыцарей назвать никчемным разве может любитель английской трактовки 100 летней войны или в шутку.

Ибо, во-первых, если и воевали с ополчением, то это не отвергает их силу. И для сравнения, понятие ополчения тоже другое. Была такая Битва при Роозбеке - феодальное рыцарское ополчение Франции разгромило фламандскую пехоту. И надо тоже понимать, что фламандские ополченцы городские — это не полубомжи, это тоже профессиональные войны, состоящие на содержании городов. Во-вторых, тут, наверное, стоить отметить, что именно рыцари могли делать разницу. Например, условные пехотинца сможет повергнуть в панику тяжеловооруженный рыцарь, а не легкий мечник.
А что же было с битвами? Как рыцари себя показывали на поле брани?

В таком случае сам по себе вопрос о никчемности того или иного рода войск в истории натянут. Как можно судить и сравнивать, скажем, гоплита и пикинера. Ведь это будет неуместно! Ведь в Новое Время были одни исторические условия, в эпоху Античности другие. И все они влияли на военное ремесло. И если рыцарь в Средние века тащил, то уже в XX веке он представляет с собой лишь предмет изучения историка.
Что же по поводу рыцарей? Действительно ли – они были такие никчемными? Автор говорил, что они выигрывали лишь у неподготовленных солдат и слабаков. Однако в Средние века не было ни рекрутской системы, ни призыва, раз. Поэтому говорить, что они воевали с какими-то профанами неуместно.
