The main advantage for a person who finds himself in such a situation for the first time is that the defibrillator itself tells you what to do. Modern automatic defibrillators are designed to be used by people with minimal training. The device provides voice prompts, counts the rhythm in real time, which should be used by those performing indirect cardiac massage, and informs when artificial respiration should be performed. It automatically analyzes the heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock if necessary. An inexperienced person providing assistance will not be able to do any harm: if a person has lost consciousness for reasons not related to ventricular fibrillation, the device will not work.
