I live in the mountains and have been looking for minerals for many years, all kinds of beautiful stones from agates, cholcedony to meteorites. Recently I have become interested in searching for sharpening stones in mountain rivers and dry streams and have found mainly microquartzites or slates for preliminary sharpening. In general, the stones are hard and do not form a suspension. But about a year ago I was lucky and found a place with a very good stone that produces its own suspension and grinds down the metal very aggressively. Different types of stones, soft and hard, most of them with cracks, cavities and pores. There are few high quality stones. I have chemically analyzed several types of these stones and they are composed of silicon oxide (quartz) and aluminum oxide. Their characteristics are very similar to Japanese stones. I named this stone “Fiddler” because it often makes a squeaking sound when working. All naguras are also made of this material, but are distinguished by their hardness. There are no advertisements on these stones, few people know them, but everyone who bought them was very pleased. My stones are all different, but at the same time they are all very high quality.
