White house press sec mixes up Brazil and Venezuela

The new White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, found herself in a bind this week when she seemed to not understand the difference between Brazil and Venezuela. The mix-up came during a press briefing on Tuesday when Jean-Pierre was asked a question about Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s planned no-show at the Summit of the Americas. In response the press secretary delivered a series of non-sequitur canned responses, first emphasizing for no apparent reason that ‘clearly we are hosting [the summit],’ before recognizing Juan Guaidó (whose name she mispronounced) as the interim President of Venezuela and then confirming that the ‘internal government’ (as she put it) of Venezuela were not attending the summit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freedom over censorship, truth over narrative.
