Welcome to Shukhov Lab!

The Shukhov Lab is an innovative laboratory for prototyping future cities. The lab has been created under the auspices of the HSE Graduate School of Urbanism. The Laboratory’s activities aim to foster innovation in urban planning and development that take into account the new economic trends and city practices related to the advanced use of information technology. Shukov Lab promotes positive transformations in Moscow, other Russian and global cities. The primary purpose of the laboratory is to the educate and inspire the new generation of urban planners and city visionaries. Students and residents are able to test new technology, prepare prototypes, investigate and analyze the city through data. Making prototypes of future cities has the objective to resolve the complex challenges facing modern cities, and to integrate as many systemic solutions as possible. We strongly believe that we can continue the innovative tradition of Russian engineer-polymath, scientist and architect Vladimir Shukhov who had a great impact on the technological and infrastructural development of urban structures in Russia at the beginning of Twentieth century.
