The Strategies for Multi Story Periphery

In her lecture, Maria Melnikova will focus on the interchanges between social policies and spatial transformations in large housing estates in Germany. From her professional experience she will try to answer how sustainable соuld be the development of urban periphery and what urban planners could do to tackle the problem of “discrimination“ of mass housing in Russia? Maria Melnikova (Germany, Russia) An urban planner and economist. She studied at Graduate School of Urbanism of the National Research University Higher School of Economics. After graduation she returned to her hometown Ufa. She took a part in the development of 'Ufa Strategy 2030', where she was responsible for research design and implementing of analytical work. She worked for one of the biggest housing developers in Moscow and in urban planning consulting. As a German Chancellor Fellow 2018/2019 (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) she investigated an urban planners’ approaches for working with LHEs and wrote a book about the key elements of German system for their further development.
